Students@SC: A Gateway to Your HPC Future

For students with big ideas and an even bigger curiosity about technology, Students@SC is more than just a program – it is the launchpad into the high performance computing (HPC) universe.

Each year, undergraduate and graduate students from around the world join the Students@SC community to explore what happens when science meets supercomputing. Whether designing powerful clusters, optimizing code, building computing infrastructure, or connecting with mentors who helped design today’s fastest and most advanced computers and networks, Students@SC participants are at the center of technological innovation.

From hands-on challenges to real-world collaborations, the program offers multiple ways to get involved. The Student Cluster Competition throws teams into a thrilling 48-hour race to design and build computing systems that can tackle massive workloads. The Student Volunteers program opens doors behind the scenes, giving participants access to researchers, engineers, and industry leaders driving the field forward. They also get up close to all the action as it happens throughout the SC Conference.

Meanwhile, the Student Posters and Research Competition provides young researchers a platform to present their discoveries and gain feedback from top experts. For those seeking one-on-one guidance, Mentor–Protégé Matching pairs students with experienced professionals to discuss research goals, career paths, and skill development. For newcomers, SIGHPC Immersion offers a deep dive into the fundamentals, providing the perfect starting point for anyone eager to understand how supercomputers are changing scientific discovery and its impact on the world.

Perhaps more important than immersive technical training, Students@SC provides a unique forum for connection, confidence, and community.
